The University of Toronto Libraries system is consistently ranked among the top ten research libraries in North America. This array of college libraries, special collections, and specialized libraries and information centres supports the teaching and research requirements of over 300 graduate programs, more than 70 professional programs, and about 700 undergraduate degree programs. Your opportunity:
The University of Toronto Libraries (UTL) Advancement team is dedicated to inspiring philanthropy that strengthens one of the world’s leading research library systems. As part of this dynamic team, the Senior Development Officer (SDO) will play a central role in growing support for UTL through leadership annual giving ($1,000 - $49,999) and major gifts, including gifts-in-kind and planned gifts.Reporting to the Director, Advancement, the SDO will focus on cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of alumni and friends. By actively managing this portfolio, the SDO will strengthen annual support and build the pipeline for future major gifts, planned gifts, and gift-in-kind contributions. Working collaboratively with Advancement colleagues, librarians, and archivists, the SDO will help identify and transition donors with capacity for larger commitments, ensuring alignment with UTL’s priorities and long-term vision.
Your responsibilities will include:
-Assessing needs and contributing to the development and implementation of plans for prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and recognition
-Developing tailored fundraising initiatives that support strategic initiatives
-Cultivating and soliciting current and prospective major gift donors through tailored stewardship programs
-Developing and implementing plans to support donor management and stewardship strategies and/or activities
-Drafting donor acknowledgment and recognition communications
-Writing briefing notes, solicitation plans and call reports to track donor interaction
Essential Qualifications:
-Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
-Minimum five years of relevant experience in major gift fundraising, or a substantially related field, such as corporate giving,annual giving, or gift planning.
-Demonstrated successful track-record in prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and recognition experience.
-Professional personal presentation and demeanor; ability to quickly gain trust and credibility with potential donors, volunteers and stakeholders.
-Experience in writing proposals and creating other written materials to support fundraising activities.
-Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
-Evidence of leadership and initiative, tact, diplomacy, attention to detail and, creativity.
-Strong organizational, analytical and relationship building skills.
-Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment to achieve department goals.
-Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and social justice.
Assets (Nonessential):
-Familiarity with Arbor or similar CRM database.
-Experience working with the library community.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 15 -- $97,348. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $124,491. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
