HGV Driver
Location: Huddersfield
Salary: A£29,737.50 per annum, plus overtime and payment for overnight stays
Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full Time
Hours : The contractual hours are Monday - Friday, 08:30 - 17:00, 37A½ working hours per week. Weekend work is likely to be part of this role as well as unsociable hours. Flexibility will be paramount for this role which includes early starts and late finishes
The Role
The HGV Driver is responsible for ensuring the timely and safe delivery and receipt of goods to customers, clients, or other businesses. This role involves loading and unloading items, ensuring accurate delivery records, and maintaining the vehicle in good working condition. The ideal candidate should have a strong sense of responsibility, excellent driving skills, and the ability to provide exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
* Delivery and Transportation: Transport goods and materials to specified locations in a timely manner. Plan routes and follow delivery schedules to ensure timely deliveries. Verify delivery instructions and addresses before departure.
* Loading and Unloading: Load and unload goods from the delivery vehicle. Ensure items are properly secured to prevent damage during transit. Assist with moving items to and from the warehouse.
* Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including delivery times, customer signatures, and any issues encountered. Report any delivery discrepancies or vehicle issues to the Warehouse Manager.
* Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks. Report any vehicle malfunctions or needed repairs promptly. Keep the delivery vehicle clean and presentable to comply with Health & Safety requirements both of the Company and the Health & Safety Executive
* Customer Service: Interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner. Address and resolve customer inquiries or complaints during deliveries. Provide excellent service to enhance customer satisfaction.
* Warehouse Duties: Assist in warehouse operations when not on delivery duty. Perform inventory checks and stock replenishment as needed. Ensure the warehouse is organised and clean.
* Any other duties not listed as deemed appropriate to your position as requested by directors, or Managers.
Skills and Qualifications
* Knowledge: Familiarity with GPS devices and route planning software. Experience in a warehouse environment with understanding of standard warehouse processes and procedures.
* Driving skills: Valid driver's licence and a clean driving record with proven experience as a driver or in a similar role. Be an excellent driver who is able to concentre for long period of time comfortably.
* Communication skills: can read, write, and speak English language at a level necessary for efficient performance. In addition, good communication skills to effectively follow written or verbal instructions
* Interpersonal skills: is important that they can establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, co-workers, or clients.
* Organizational skills: The Warehouse driver must be able to follow a schedule and adapt to changing schedules or deliveries based on priorities. They must deliver goods in a timely manner.
* Physical dexterity: The job of a driver is manually inclined, so it is important that they are energetic and can lift a reasonable weight without assistance. They must be able to drive for long periods of time comfortably ensuring to adhere to legal breaks as required for driver safety. The work will involve exposure to various weather conditions while making deliveries or collections and transporting goods.
