What do we need: The Controller leads the planning, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of People Serving People's accounting and financial activities and ensures proper financial controls and reporting structures are in place. This position oversees all accounting and financial matters and helps People Serving People develop new business lines, grow its financial strength, and improve its efficiency. The Controller is a thought partner for People Serving People's leadership team and Board of Directors, a creative problem solver, and a champion of People Serving People's mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities:

Financial Leadership
Provide leadership and management for the financial areas of the organization. Participate in long range and strategic planning. Evaluate the financial impact of trends in public and private funding, the organization's long-range planning and the introduction of new programs/strategies to assist the COO, CEO and the Board in meeting their responsibilities. Develop, implement, and continuously improve new practices and processes to promote the organization's financial health. Stays abreast of GAAP and other accounting changes impacting the non-profit sector and enables the organization to comply with those changes in a planful manner. Partners with finance staff to ensure all financial transactions are finalized monthly. Responsible for the development of the finance team. This includes staffing, performance management, and training. A supportive and team-focused approach is necessary. Budgeting and Process Coordinate the development and administration of People Serving People's annual budgets. Continuously improve the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting their budgets. Partners with finance staff to ensure People Serving People's accounts receivable and accounts payable processes and activities are efficient, accurate, timely, and continuously improved. Budget Accountability and Reporting Lead the accounting processes for the organization. Coordinate with external auditors, ensure proper government filings, and report out to the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors. Ensure timely and accurate analysis and reporting of organizational financial performance. Ensures payroll is completed accurately and on-time. Partners with Chief People & Culture Officer when coordination is needed with Human Resources. Partners with Advancement Department to support advancement goals, ensure the regular reconciliation of donation activity with bank deposits, and reclassify restricted revenue as unrestricted once utilized. Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism, ensuring adequate cash flow to meet organization's needs. Facilitates reports required for annual independent audit and any federal single audit, and work closely with the auditing firm to complete the audit(s) and forms 990 accurately and on-time. Organizational Collaboration and Leadership Support other leaders with the financial aspects of program and service development consistent with community needs and the mission of the organization. Support the Operations team with the financial aspects of building asset maintenance and replacement planning. Support the People & Culture team with the financial aspects of corporate insurance, benefits, and other human capital planning. Support the Development Department in providing timely and accurate information and reports to funders. Ensures that necessary records are kept on all restricted donations. Performs rigorous financial modeling and analysis to help the CEO and leadership team with short and long-term planning as it relates to the organization. Provides thought partnership, problem solving, and sound counsel that aligns with organizational values. Fosters a creative, learning, person-centered, and accountable environment within the organization that advances People Serving People's values. Balances internal controls with program dynamics and ensures both priorities are met. Attend Finance & Investment Committee and Board of Directors meetings, reporting on financial matters of the organization. Act as supporting staff liaison to the Finance and Investment Committees, in partnership with the COO. Other Interfaces and manages relationships with financial institutions, corporate entities, donors, service vendors, county and other governmental unit departments regarding financial matters. Reviews and provides input on organizational contracts and leases. Reports on and submits billing for government contracts. Provides leadership and participates fully in organization-wide initiatives. Performs other duties assigned by the COO. Education Required:
BA/BS in Accounting, Financial Management or related field. Advanced degree, MBA, CPA or equivalent preferred.
Computer Skills:
Proficient with Microsoft Excel and competent with other Microsoft Office applications. Experience with SAGE Intacct preferred. Experience with BILL and BILL Spend & Expense preferred. Experience continuously refining accounting system(s) and process improvements preferred.
Other Qualifications:
Deep rooting in accounting management and prior experience as a Controller or full charge bookkeeper. Familiarity with GAAP and experience serving as a CPA or auditor highly desired. Minimum of ten years' experience in financial operations and financial business office management. Experience in financial operations management of a non-profit human services organization desired. Knowledgeable about cybersecurity best practices. Experience working in culturally diverse settings and high capacity for cultural humility strongly desired. Enthusiasm for advancing systems change as well as justice, equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging, and desire to center these goals in financial management and continuous improvement activities. Flexible leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Pay and Benefits:

$110,000 annually - $114,000 annually

Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Full-Time; Exempt.
