­­Overview:  

We are seeking a Radioisotope Processing Technician who will focus on (the separating, dispensing, and preparing of a variety of radioisotope shipments).  This position resides in the REDC Laboratory Chemical Operations Group in the IPMD, ISED, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).  

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

-Process isotopes via documented procedures in hot cell and glovebox facilities
-Assist technical staff and other technicians with operations in chemical and radiochemical laboratories 
-Engage with scientists, engineers, and technicians to establish solutions to complex problems
-Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, health, and quality program requirements
-Assist with the coordination of radioactive and hazardous waste disposal, manage the chemical inventory within the facility, and interact with other team members to resolve processing-related problems
-Maintain logbooks and batch record documentation

Basic Qualifications:

-An AS degree in science/engineering discipline.
-A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or the equivalent combination of a degree and experience
-Excellent communication skills are essential to ensure effective interaction with peers, technical and non- technical staff.
-Must be self-motivated, able to work as a team, and be committed to safe work practices.
-Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
-Excellent written and oral communication skills.
 

Preferred Qualifications:

style="margin-top:0.0in;margin-bottom:0.0in" type="disc"-
-BS degree in science, engineering, or related field.
-Experience in wet-chemistry operations and nuclear detection methods, including gamma-ray spectroscopy.
-Experience in quality assurance documentation, GLP, and or cGMP experience.
-Experience in isotope production activities and chemical purification techniques.
-Experience using glove boxes and/or hot cell manipulators for isotope production.
-Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.

 

Special Requirements:

-Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.
-Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Security, Credentialing, and Eligibility Requirements:
For employment at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), a Real ID compliant form of identification will be required.  Additionally, ORNL is subject to Department of Energy (DOE) access restrictions. All employees must also be able to obtain and maintain a federal Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card as mandated by Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) and Department of Energy (DOE) Order 473.1A, which requires a favorable post-employment background investigation.

To obtain this credential, new employees must successfully complete and pass a Federal Tier 1 background check investigation.  This investigation includes a declaration of illegal drug activities, including use, supply, possession, or manufacture within the last year.  This includes marijuana and cannabis derivatives, which are still considered illegal under federal law, regardless of state laws.

For foreign national candidates:
If you have not resided in the U.S. for three consecutive years, you are not eligible for the PIV credential and instead will need to obtain a favorable Local Site Specific Only (LSSO) risk determination to maintain employment.  Once you meet the three-year residency requirement, you will be required to obtain a PIV credential to maintain employment.
